Over 60 members and guests attended the AMMI Global Expert Sharing Session on EU Medical Device Regulations at E&O Hotel Penang on 1 November 2017. The objective of this event is to provide insight and facilitate discussion among AMMI Members and key stakeholders on the impact of the new Medical Device Regulations in Europe for the Medical Device Industry. The event started off with the Key Note Presentation on “Challenges and Expectations of the New Medical Device Regulations in Europe for the Medical Device Industry” by Mr Juergen Heil, Senior Vice President Quality & Environment Management, B. Braun Melsungen AG, Germany, This was followed by a Panel Discussion led by Mr Frank Ried, Director of Ried Q&C Consultancy. The distinguished panel members also included Mr Juergen Heil, Peter Porzler, Vice President, Medical & Health Service (MHS), Global Non-Active Medical Devices, TUV SUD and Mr Tony Low, Director of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance, Commissioning Agents International .

eon graduated from the Graduate Institute of Dental Science (Master), Taipei Medical University, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (Bachelor), Chung Yuan Christian University. He is currently a doctoral candidate (Ph.D. candidate) at the School of Dentistry, Taipei Medical University.
With a background in biomedical engineering and biomaterials, Leon began his career working with a medical device manufacturer as a Senior R&D Engineer. He was mainly responsible for new product design and development, as well as project management—especially in areas such as product design, testing, verification, gamma-ray sterilization validation, clinical evaluation, and clinical follow-up. After four years, he was promoted to Document Control and QA Department Supervisor, in charge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2008), Medical Device Management Systems (ISO 13485:2003), and all design control documentation. He also served as the Risk Management Team Leader, Internal Audit Team Leader, Clinical Evaluation Team Member, Clinical Follow-Up Team Member, and Internal Trainer. At the same time, Leon was also a lecturer and trainer for several industry training centers.
Leon has been with BSI for over ten years. His current role is Scheme Manager and Technical Specialist of the BSI Global Orthopedic and Dental Devices Team, responsible for generating and maintaining the schemes related to medical device CE certification to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from the Notified Body and supporting operations with local teams.
Leon’s responsibilities at BSI also include serving as a Technical Specialist for technical file reviews. He has also been the contact point for manufacturers, handling inquiries and certification arrangements with his strong knowledge and excellent communication skills.

Graham has made Malaysia his home for over 27 years. Born in the Middle East and raised in the UK, he brings a diverse background to his professional journey.
With extensive experience in procurement and sustainability roles across the Asia Pacific region, Graham has worked in various sectors, including Electrical & Electronics, Consultancy, and Pharmaceuticals, before venturing into Medical Technology.
Graham joined B. Braun in 2015 as Vice President and Head of Procurement for the Asia Pacific region. In addition to this role, he has been instrumental in advancing sustainability initiatives within the company.
In 2024, Graham transitioned to a newly established position as Vice President of Sustainability for B. Braun in Asia Pacific. In this role, he is dedicated to implementing sustainability strategies, policies, and programs that reflect B. Braun’s commitment to social responsibility and environmental sustainability throughout the region.

Yean Ting, Heads the Quality Regulatory Access and Policy team in Roche Diagnostics Malaysia. An experienced regulatory and quality professional, Yean Ting has worked across multiple segments of the healthcare industry including pharmaceutical, medical device and In-Vitro Diagnostic sector in leadership roles. Ash a professional with a progressive outlook, she has built and executed strategies to ensure regulatory and quality compliance in the organizations.
Yean Ting takes pride in being a strong industry advocate, leading the Malaysian Medical Device Association (MMDA) as Secretary to the association and representing Malaysia’s medical device stakeholders as Malaysia Representative in GHWP and holding leadership position as Co-Chair of WG5 focusing on Clinical Evidence.
She brings the industry players together to offer Malaysia’ on the industry’s latest developments and create a platform to bridge ideas and feedback between the government and the private sectors.

Steve leads the Boston Scientific Global Sterilization and Sterility Assurance Team and serves as a strategic leader within the global supply chain organization, overseeing all aspects of sterilization processes, sterility assurance programs, and contract sterilization globally.
Steve has a broad background with more than 40 years of experience in microbiology, R&D, engineering, sterilization and quality. Prior to joining Boston Scientific, he held roles with Johnson & Johnson, Alcon and Acelity leading global operations engineering and sterility assurance functions.
Steve started his career with Boston Scientific at Marlborough corporate office, as VP Quality Assurance Global Services. Prior to joining global supply in his current position, he held a divisional role as VP, Quality Peripheral Intervention and Global Sterility Assurance.

Dr. Muralitharan Paramasua, is the Chief Executive of Medical Device Authority, Ministry of Health Malaysia since 15th February 2023. Before being appointed as Chief Executive in February 2023, Dr. Muralitharan served in Ministry of Health Malaysia as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in various positions for 9 years.
Prior to joining MOH, Dr. Muralitharan was also once served at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for 7 years from 2011 to 2017 and was responsible for international affairs of the ministry including free trade negotiations with different countries. Dr. Muralitharan earned his PhD in International Economy from University of Malaya. He received his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Biohealth Science from the University of Malaya.
Mr Baskaran is employed, since 2019, by Teleflex Medical Sdn Bhd (wholly owned by Teleflex Incorporated, headquartered in Wayne Pennsylvania, US) and currently holds the position as Head of Manufacturing for APAC Region. He is a member of the Board of Directors in Teleflex Medical Sdn Bhd. He oversees the Manufacturing Operations of all the 4 Teleflex Manufacturing Sites in Malaysia & India with over 4000+ employees.
